Abstract
Using multiple sclerosis as a model, it is demonstrated how a chronic neurological disorder has psychosocial consequences during the period between onset and diagnosis, at the time of diagnosis, and in the post-diagnostic period. The impact of the disorder on self-esteem, civil status, habitation, economy, social and leisure activities and need for help is described. It is concluded that it will increasingly be expected that the physician has knowledge of these relations.Entities:
