Abstract
The Escherichia coli RecA protein promotes homologous recognition in base triplets via non-Watson-Crick bonds that differ from those formed nonenzymically from DNA consisting of runs of purines or pyrimidines. Base substitutions reveal recognition to be permissive, consistent with a search for homology that achieves speed at the cost of precision.Entities:
