[Artificial mesh in the reconstruction of the posterior auditory canal wall (author's transl)].

C Gammert, E Eitschberger.

Abstract

Mersilene mesh was used in the reconstruction of the posterior wall of the auditory canal in 12 radical mastoidectomy and attico-antrotomy cavities. Reestablishment of a stable metal wall occurred in 7 patients. In 2 the mesh had to be covered with soft tissue in a second procedure. 3 implants required removal. This technique because of the 25% failure rate can only be recommended reservedly.
