Should general practitioners give thrombolytic therapy?

Abstract

Thrombolytic therapy reduces mortality from acute myocardial infarction. Moreover the earlier thrombolytic therapy is given after the development of infarction the greater the benefit. It is usual to start thrombolysis only after the patient has been admitted to hospital. In this article we discuss whether thrombolytic therapy should be started by the GP.
