Abstract
Global excitation produced by oscillating a peripheral square-wave grating back and forth through one-half cycle inhibits the visibility of an incremental test flash only when the flash is presented in the foveal region of the visual field. This finding is discussed in the context of the neurophysiological periphery effect and shift-effect and their possible role in saccadic suppression.Mesh:
