Abstract
The National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute-sponsored DELTA study is the first collaborative, multicenter diet study to utilize standardized protocols to feed specific diets to study participants. In the first study, the investigators are focusing on the effects of reducing dietary saturated fat on plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and thrombogenic activity. Future studies will attempt to address important diet/public health questions dealing with high carbohydrate vs. high monounsaturated fat diets, and the cholesterol raising activity of specific saturated fatty acids. Moreover, DELTA will be an invaluable model for other multicenter diet studies.Entities:
