Predicting hospital profitability in short-term general community hospitals.

Abstract

This study evaluated the profitability of various business and staffing strategies pursued by community hospitals in Los Angeles County in the 1980s. Recommendations emphasized attention to core inpatient business, management of the care of publicly funded patients, reservation of hospital use for sicker patients, and pursual of revenue optimization strategies carefully.
