Abstract
Near infrared spectroscopy is a novel technique still at an early stage in its development. Current technology has been used to measure cerebral haemodynamics and oxygenation at the cotside in sick preterm infants, to observe cerebral oxygenation during birth, and in other situations such as cardiac surgery.
