Abstract
Psychiatric case records from Eaton and Weil's 1950-53 study of the Hutterites were rediagnosed using DSM-III-R criteria. The results confirmed that the Hutterites have a very low prevalence of both schizophrenia (0.9 per 1000) and bipolar disorder (0.6 per 1000). Genetic and/or environmental explanations are both possible. Because of their unusual genetics and lifestyle, the Hutterites are an invaluable potential research resource.Entities:
