Role of CD40-CD40-ligand interaction in Ig-isotype switching.

R Fuleihan1, N Ramesh, R S Geha.

Abstract

Ig-isotype switching to IgE requires interleukin-4 and a contact-dependent T-cell signal delivered by the ligand for CD40. The recent discovery that defects in the gene encoding the CD40 ligand are the underlying cause of the X-linked hyper IgM syndrome highlights the role of CD40 and its ligand in Ig-isotype switching.
