Spectral transmission characteristics of tinted lenses.

B Borgwardt, G A Fishman, D Vander-Meulen.

Abstract

A total of 90 prescription and commercially available tinted lenses were evaluated for spectra transmission characteristics. An inappropriately large number of these lenses transmitted unnecessarily high amounts of light in the near ultraviolet, visible, and near infrared portions of the spectrum. No criteria regarding lens composition, color, or cost could reliably predict the effectiveness of individual lenses.
