Esophagectomy without thoracotomy.

H W Pinotti, B Zilberstein, W Pollara, A Raia.

Abstract

A surgical technique for resection of the esophagus, performing a mediastinal tunnel by cervical incision combined with a laparotomy approach, incising the diaphragm in its medial portion from the hiatus of the xiphoid process is described. Twenty-five patients were operated upon by this technique. Neither mortality nor serious complications were observed during the immediate postoperative period.
