Vertex impact and cervical dislocation in rugby players.

A T Scher.

Abstract

Cervical vertebral dislocation occasionally occurs as a result of vertex impact. The injury has been noted in rugby players after unsuccessful tackles. The mechanism of injury is discussed and a case history presented. Severe traumatic forces are involved and strengthening of the cervical muscles is suggested to decrease the incidence of these injuries.
