Specific type of head injury in children. Report of 5 cases.

H Takahashi, S Nakazawa.

Abstract

Among many cases of head injuries in children, 5 cases showing specific symptoms were recorded. All of these 5 cases were under 10 years of age, with no initial loss of consciousness after suffering trivial head injuries and then, after a latent period, manifested transient neurological disorders accompanied with or without convulsion. The neurological disorders lasted for an extensive period of time, but complete recovery was achieved. This clinical appearance might be the combined effects of the organic disorder of a cerebral contusion and a certain functional disorder in the brain. In diagnosis and treatment of head injuries in children, sufficient attention should be paid to such a specific type.
