Femoral osteotomy in Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.

E N Cordeiro.

Abstract

A study of the role of intertrochanteric varus osteotomy of the femur in the treatment of 60 cases of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) shows 56.6% good and fair results, in spite of the fact that the cases were in different phases of evolution and had various degrees of epiphyseal involvement. Bilateral cases were excluded because of the difficulty in evaluation, which was based on radiologic and clinical criteria, in comparison with the normal side. Most cases had a follow-up that ranged from 8 to 17 years. The surgical procedure employed the same technique in all cases.
