Abstract
A study was undertaken to determine the effects of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) on the development of injury-induced atherosclerosis in swine. Treatment of mini-pigs with 30 mg/kg of ASA twice daily for 4 weeks significantly inhibited intimal thickening caused by 2 consecutive balloonings. The effect was accompanied by a 30% reduction in aortic collagen. ASA thus appears to exert a protective effect in injury-induced atherosclerosis.Entities:
