Cavernomas in the middle fossa.

K Mori, H Handa, H Gi, K Mori.

Abstract

Clinical analyses of 5 cases of cavernomas in the middle fossa were made to define specific clinical and radiological manifestations and thus improve the pre-operative diagnosis and treatment. From diagnostic and operative points of view, cavernomas in the middle fossa must be considered separately from those in other localities. Intracerebral cavernomas are often encountered as the cause of epilepsy. The tumors are demonstrated as calcified avascular masses and can usually be removed easily. Cavernomas in the middle fossa are extraaxial masses and are often misdiagnosed as meningiomas. They are difficult to remove because of massive hemorrhage.
