Impact of stress on the Puerto Rican family: treatment considerations.

Ian A Canino1, Glorisa Canino2.

Abstract

The impact of stress, due to migration and poverty, on the family structure of the low-income Puerto Rican family is discussed. The ecostructural family therapy approach is suggested as an appropriate therapeutic modality with this high-risk group. Treatment pitfalls and effective therapeutic techniques are illustrated by a clinical case presentation.
