Taking a sleep history.

A Kales, C R Soldatos, J D Kales.

Abstract

In taking a sleep history, the physician determines the onset, course and clinical characteristics of the disorder; assesses the 24-hour sleep/wakefulness patterns; obtains additional information from the bed partner, and inquires about a personal or family history of other sleep disorders. The impact of the disorder on the patient's life is evaluated, and the attitudes of the patient and his family toward the sleep problem are assessed.
