Cigarettes smoking and adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase.

Abstract

Adipose-tissue lipoprotein-lipase activity was measured in otherwise healthy smokers and compared with that of a nonsmoking control population. Adipose-tissue lipoprotein-lipase activity was significantly higher (P < 0.001) in smokers (5.4 +/- 2.6 mU/10(6) cells) than in controls (1.9 +/- 0.7 mU/10(6) cells) of similar weight.
