The role of the community hospital in a regional program of obstetrics and neonatal care.

A regionalized system of perinatal care, which draws on the strengths of individual hospitals and corrects any weaknesses, can enhance the level of performance of the community hospital. Although the care of high risk infants takes priority in this system, concern is expressed that routine perinatal care should also receive additional attention.
