Estimation of pore passage time of red blood cells in normal subjects and patients with renal failure.

Y Kikuchi, M Horimoto, T Koyama, Y Koyama, S Tozawa.

Abstract

The average transit time of single red blood cells through a nuclepore membrane filter (pore diameter and length, 5 micrometers and 10 micrometers, respectively) was measured using an improved method and was shown to be an index of deformability. An increased passage time, indicating reduced deformability, was observed in renal failure.
