Abstract
The autonomic innervation of the human prostate has been studied using both light and fluorescence microscopic techniques. A dense network of both adrenergic and acetylcholinesterase-positive nerves innervates the smooth muscle around the ducts and acini of the prostate. No direct innervation of the acinar epithelium can be observed. The role of the innervation in both normal and pathologic states is discussed.Entities:
