[Histological patterns with prognostic significance in neuroblastoma].

A Ceccamea, M Bonamico, M Napoleoni.

Abstract

The authors report the results of a statistical study on the correlations of survival in 41 children with neuroblastoma. After pointing out the significance of some clinical data, they emphasize the histological findings that may give an indication of the behavior of the tumor, i.e. the degree of differentiation and lymphocytic infiltration of the neoplastic tissue. Indeed, statistically significant differences were found between dead and surviving children as regards these findings (p less than 0.001). The authors also point out that the degree of cell differentiation is determined by the number of maturating cells and not by the number of completely mature cells.
