Species-dependent ocular aldehyde dehydrogenase.

F S Messiha.

Abstract

The presence of ocular NAD-linked aldehyde dehydrogenase is demonstrated in four species. The specific activity and Vmax of the enzyme is greater in ocular tissue drained from aqueous fluid and without the lens compared to the intact eye. The apparent Km remained essentially unchanged for both of these ocular preparations in the species studied.
