[Reconstruction of tendon sheaths from veins in the "no-man's-land" of the hand].

M Forgon, V Bíró.

Abstract

A special procedure is reported for reconstruction of damaged flexor tendons in "no-mans-land" after severe crush injuries and extensive scarring. In the first stage, the scarred flexor tendons will be excised and replaced by an autogenous vein graft. A silicone rod is placed within the vein graft. In the second stage, 3 to 4 weeks later, the silicone rod is replaced with a free tendon graft. The endothelial lining of the vein tunnel provides a good gliding surface for the vein grafts. The minimal scarring permits better function.
