The effect of methylprednisolone and vitamin A on wound healing. II.

K Salmela.

Abstract

The effect of 100 IU and 1000 IU vitamin A on sponge-induced granulation tissue formation was studied in methylprednisolone-treated and non-treated rats. Collagen accumulation in the new granulation tissue and plasma vitamin A were determined in the animals. Vitamin A severely affected the weight gain of the rats. Methylprednisolone reduced the content of collagen in granulation tissue. This effect of methylprednisolone was not reversed by simultaneous administration of 100 iU or 1000 IU vitamin A.
