Abstract
The article discusses possible etiological factors for the carcinogenesis of stomach tumours. Apart from genetic factors, stomach carcinogenesis may be attributed to the exposure of the stomach to carcinogenic substances taken in with the food, such as pyrrolysis products of certain amino acids, N-nitroso compounds or disturbances of the physiological function of the stomach, for example pathological reflux after stomach operations. The frequency of stomach cancer could not be related to occupational exposure. Geographic pathology has shown that people coming from high risk areas (e.g. Japan) adapt to the risk pattern of the host country when they emigrate (e.g. to the United States, where there is only a low risk for stomach cancer). Therefore, it is assumed that several factors play a role in the etiology of stomach cancer.Entities:
