Abstract

Polydactyly, one of the most common congenital deformities, is inherited and often several members of a family are affected. The condition may range from a small amount of additional soft tissue without osseous structure to a complete, fully developed extra digit or digits. The primary treatment is surgical removal. In this paper, the authors review and discuss the genetic basis, classification, and surgical correction of the conditions.
