Abstract
The history of Nigerian psychiatry is reviewed, and the main features and leading figures identified. The author then proceeds to discuss future directions to be taken by Nigerian psychiatry, if it is to effectively meet the challenges involved, the most prominent being to provide service for a large but growing population living in rapidly changing times.Mesh：
