Diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.

R Sandvei.

Abstract

The clinical records of 450 patients with ectopic pregnancy were reviewed with respect to provisional diagnosis, symptoms, findings at gynecological examination, and results of diagnostic procedures. Approximately 50% of the patients had the correct diagnosis at the time of admission. The urinary pregnancy test and curettage are not very reliable tests. Culdocentesis, and above all the beta subunit of HCG have improved the diagnostic accuracy of ectopic pregnancy. The beta subunit of HCG was positive in 97 out of 100 patients with ectopic pregnancy.
