[Surgical treatment of retinal detachment with macular holes by vitrectomy and silicone oil injections (author's transl)].

A total of 18 patients with retinal detachment from macular holes were treated by intra-ocular injections of silicone oil after vitrectomy. Successful reapplication was obtained in all cases operated upon by primary intention (12 out of 12). This procedure has the advantage of not requiring coagulation around the hole, as employed by other methods, thus avoiding enlargement of the central scotoma.
