Abstract

An investigation was conducted to determine the incidence of Echinococcus infection among dogs and slaughtered sheep and goats in Ibadan Municipality. Of 102 dogs examined, forty-nine (48%) had Echinococcus-like ova. Parasite eggs from four (3.9%) of these animals produced Echinococcus larvae when cultured while twenty (19.6%) of the faecal samples had proglottides. Two hundred and fifteen sheep and goats were examined at four different abattoirs. Only 28% had hydatid cysts.
