Intracranial pressure monitoring in the emergency setting.

R W Mortara.

Abstract

The contemporary treatment of patients with severe head injuries includes intracranial pressure monitoring. Devices currently in clinical use include the intraventricular catheter, the Richmond and Philly Bolt subarachnoid screws, the subdural cup catheter, and the fiberoptic-pneumatic epidural sensor. Although these devices are suitable, they all carry the risk of infection. A totally implantable device would reduce this risk.
