Agranulocytosis and chlorpromazine.

A case of death associated with chlorpromazine agranulocytosis and the pertinent literature is reviewed. The authors conclude that the condition is cumulative dose related. Elderly, sickly Caucasian females are the population at high risk. Daily evaluation of the need for medication, the cumulative dose, and signs of infection and fever can reduce the incidence.
