Abstract
The effect of eight penicillins on the mucociliary activity of rabbit trachea was tested in vitro. Carbenicillin and ampicillin had a minor inhibitory effect. Penicillin G and V and pheneticillin were a little more ciliestatic. Propicillin, cloxacillin and dicloxacillin were most toxic. The mucociliary toxicity increased with increasing lipophilicity of the penicillins and correlated well with their known neurotoxic in vivo effects.Entities:
