A Doppler haematotachographic investigation in patients with ocular and orbital symptoms due to a carotid-cavernous fistula.

R J de Keizer.

Abstract

A Doppler investigation of 33 patients with ocular and orbital anomalies showed that this examination can be an important aid to the differential diagnosis of orbital vascular conditions. The examination was performed with the direction-sensitive Parks 806 Doppler and a 9.5 MHz transducer, and in some cases with the Medsonic Versatone 8 MHz. Spontaneous and traumatic carotid-cavernous fistulas in particular demonstrated specific Doppler patterns, with which the course of certain haemodynamic changes could be followed.
