Abstract
We describe use of the ultrasonic scalpel to perform three partial splenectomies expeditiously, with control, and with excellent hemostasis. This new powered instrument has a tip that vibrates at ultrasonic frequencies and cuts through mesenchymal tissue, sparing blood vessels. On the basis of experience in the laboratory and the cases presented, we believe that the technique of ultrasonic partial splenectomy may overcome problems inherent in methods now used.Mesh:
