A rachitic infant painted by Burgkmair 136 years before Dr. Whistler described rickets.

T E Cone.

Abstract

Rickets as a definite disease manifesting itself by a more or less constant association of symptoms was first described in 1645 by Daniel Whistler, as English physician. However, the disease must have existed years before Dr. Whistler's report, as is evident in the painting by Hans Burgkmair completed in 1509.
