Multiple arterial caliber persistence resulting in hematomas and fatal rupture of the gastric wall.

P Molnár, T Mikó.

Abstract

Caliber-persistent arteries come close to inner or outer body surfaces without ramification and reduction of their caliber. This abnormality may result in a variety of pathologic consequences. Their presence in the wall of the stomach or jejunum may eventuate in lethal hemorrhage. The causative role of this anomaly has also been clarified in the development of chronic ulcers of the lower lip. The first case of multiple occurrence of caliber-persistent arteries in the stomach is reported. The lethal outcome resulted from the rupture of the gastric wall.
