Reinnervation of teeth following segmental osteotomy in the cat.

Reinnervation of teeth following osteotomy has been investigated in cats using electrophysiological techniques. The ingrowing nerve fibers were derived from the regenerating ipsilateral inferior alveolar nerve, the ipsilateral mental and lingual nerves, and the contralateral lingual nerve. The regenerating fibers conducted more slowly and were fewer than normal.
