Beta thalassemia minor and cleidocranial dysplasia: a rare combination of genetic abnormalities in one family.

W N Alexander, R L Ferguson.

Abstract

Dentists frequently treat patients who have several coexisting disease processes. When genetic disorders of distinct and separate types are present in several members of one family, it is a finding of considerable interest. A family afflicted with beta thalassemia minor and cleidocranial dysplasia is discussed and their management is presented. Special emphasis must be placed on the inclusion of genetic counseling in the treatment plan of patients with genetically transmissible abnormalities.
