Abstract
A patient with respiratory neuromuscular paralysis secondary to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is described who was managed at home for more than 12 months on a volume cycled respirator. Although the cost is high, it is less than in an acute care hospital setting. Requirements for success include parient selection, adequate home environment, and dedicated medical and paramedical personnel.Entities:
