Patterns of self-reported drug use among secondary school students in Bendel State, Nigeria.

J Nevadomsky.

Abstract

Based on a sample of nearly 1,500 secondary school students in Bendel State, Nigeria, this study shows that students disapprove of most forms of drug use among their peers and that very few of them actually use drugs. No clear evidence emerged for the use of heroin, morphine and cocaine. One finds, however, that chlordiazepoxide (Librium) and diazepam (Valium) are among the most frequently used drugs. One important finding is that there is a kind of "coalescence of drug use" in which certain drugs tend to go together.
