Mycotic aneurysm of the intracavernous portion of the carotid artery in childhood. Case report.

T Tomita, D G McLone, T P Naidich.

Abstract

A mycotic aneurysm of the intracavernous portion of the carotid artery produced total ophthalmoplegia in a 2-year-old boy. Serial angiography displayed progressive enlargement of the aneurysm which was successfully treated by carotid ligation. Angiography is mandatory to role out carotid artery complications secondary to cavernous sinus thrombophlebitis.
