Abstract
The structure and cell types of the epidermal lines that are found on the surface of the head and arms of Sepia officinalis and Loligo vulgaris, were investigated by light- and transmission electron microscopy. The lines consist of ciliated cells and non-ciliated, accessory cells. The axon of the ciliated cell and the ultrastructure of the latter indicate that this element is sensory; therefore, the epidermal lines of cephalopods may be regarded as a type of sensory organ.Entities:
