Evaluation of a hospital-based accident flying squad using an injury scoring system.

D F Gorman, J Coals.

Abstract

The records of 250 patients treated by a hospital-based flying squad have been analysed retrospectively to determine the value of such a unit in preventing death following various types of accident. To facilitate analysis two analytical methods have been used, one of which showed that flying squad action saved two lives. However, on clinical grounds we conclude that measures taken at the scene unequivocally led to the survival of 6 per cent of those alive at the scene.
