Abstract
In summary, the role of the physical therapist before and after surgery depends upon the type of care that the surgeon desires. In aggressive care, the physical therapist is involved in the biomechanical assessment of the patient and preoperative education. Postsurgically, the rehabilitation process involves early movement, exercise, stretching and ambulation. Each surgical procedure has been described with its subsequent recommended activities and exercises. This active regimen will assist in decreasing postsurgical complications such as scarring. The program has worked well, and early findings indicate it is superior to extremely conservative care in which activity is restricted.Entities:
