Abstract
In the present investigation, we characterized the activity of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) in homogenates prepared from human decidua vera tissue. The specific activity of COMT in decidua vera is greater than that in liver and myometrium and much greater than that in adipose tissue and erythrocytes. The specific activity of COMT in decidua vera obtained at term was significantly greater (p less than 0.001) than that obtained early in gestation. However, we do not as yet ascribe physiologic significance to this finding since the period of time between delivery of the tissue and assay of the enzyme activity may have varied between the two groups.Entities:
