Simultaneous interphalangeal dislocation in one finger.

F M Watson.

Abstract

A case of simultaneous dislocation of both interphalangeal joints in a single finger in a volleyball player is reported. Reduction was achieved with longitudinal traction and full motion was regained following appropriate immobilization. It appears that the mechanism of injury was a hyperextension force which initially produced dorsal dislocation of the distal interphalangeal joint but even after producing this injury was still prominent enough to produce dorsal dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint.
